Standing on the coast, one can see a number of small islands located just a few miles from shore. The most impressive feature of Pembrokeshire is its coast to the north. This wide area of moorland has many historical monuments and artifacts and also the source of the bluestones. Often used to make Jewellery, slabs of these large bluestones were used to construct Stonehenge. In the interior the land is flat but lush with vegetations and farmlands.
Most of Pembrokeshire is easy to access; buses and train service run to all the major towns. However, deep in the interior and to the south, some communities can not be accessed with public transportation. The major industry of the county is based on tourism.
The majority of tourists flock to the town of Tenby in the summer. This little fishing village has become a popular destination for visitors from both the UK and Europe. It has nearly 4 miles of soft sandy unspoilt beaches. When strolling along the beach, one can see a spectacular view of many of the 13th century structures standing at the edge of the beach, the most impressive monument is the Five Arches barbican gate and the 15th century St Mary’s church. The town also has a museum and several art galleries. In the summer, the place is booming with tourists. There are cafes, coffee shops, restaurants, pubs, bars and hotels of every type and cater to very budget.
For the children, there is a large holiday park with amusement rides, pools, gardens, bowling alleys and even golfing. For a small town, Tenby has more pubs than cafes. And the night life is roaring with excitement every night. There are countless places to go drink, listen to music and dance.
The one minor negative about Tenby is that being small, the restaurant hotels and cafes do get packed rather quickly.
The great thing about a holiday in Pembrokeshire is that you can have all the fun, excitement and peace, but at a much cheaper price than if you went to any other tourist destination in Britain.
